AOTY #1: Ka - Descendants of Cain [2020]
Welcome to my Album of the Year highlights! I’ll give you a little run down with a brief history to start, show you the tracklist (with the tracks in bold being my favorites) with all of the featured guests (if any), give you some descriptors that might make you more inclined to check it out, and I’ll provide links to stream/buy the project down at the bottom. Enjoy!
It has finally arrived. It is one of the highest honors that I have ever had ladies and gentleman to be able to give Ka’s masterpeice of an album the highest mark that I can bestow here at Tha Soup Dude’s Kitchen: Descendants of Cain is my Album of the Year for 2020. If you want to know how well-earned and deserved this is, know that this year I listened to well over 400 projects, and throughout the year I update my list weekly based on how things have grown on me: I placed Descendants of Cain into my #1 position one week after it came out, and it has stayed there consistently since that moment. While every other number before it was an agonizing and painstaking decision, this was the single sure-decision I made in this process. I would like to thank everyone out there who has made it to the end, reading everything I’ve put out both in this AOTY series and on Tha Soup Dude’s Kitchen as a whole. I also want to thank all of the artists who have reached out to me with words of encouragement and respect; it is all mutual, without you guys this website would be nothing. Lastly, I would like to personally thank Ka for what he does, not just for hip-hop, not just for music, not just for Brownsville, but what he does for *life*, for humanity. It is profound statements on the human condition that people like Ka bring that keeps people grounded, keeps them thinking, and without you warrior poets the world would be so much dimmer. Let’s start all over again folks; here’s to a amazing 2021.
