JANUARY 2020

JANUARY 2020

Welcome to the Monthly post, where I lay out everything you may have missed over the past 30 or so days, give you a little state of the union, then lay out where we’re going in the future.

January knocked it out of the fucking park this year with one of the strongest starts to a year that I can remember. I personally have almost 40 projects still saved over the past five weeks, and dozens of singles getting us ready for even more heat in the near future. It was a difficult decision to pick the album and track of the month amongst the hip-hop wreckage this month, but I think I did my best. I don’t think I can stress enough how essential my AOTM is this month: it is a must listen in every sense.

This month also came with some heavily appreciated attention to my craft from some of the artists I covered throughout January. I’d like to give a shoutout to Asun Eastwood out of Toronto for showing love towards my write-up of his (and Vago’s) project Sewer Science: keep on doing what you do best brother, Toronto is killing it right now. Also, much love to All Hail Y.T. for the respect to my The Spoils of Babylon write-up, the project he did with Tone Beatz this month; all of you out there in Deleware (Left Lane, Jay NiCE, Chris Skillz) are killing it, and I’m always looking forward to what you guys are cooking up. And, lastly, a very, VERY, special shoutout to Big Ghost, who has probably done more for my confidence going forward than anything so far in TSDK’s short life: the biggest of thank yous for your words, inspiration, and, most importantly, the astounding project Carpe Noctem. All of you guys are going to have an amazing 2020, and I’m here to support it 1000%. One Love.

Another month down, 11 more to go for 2020. There are a lot of great projects that have been announced so far for 2020, all of which you can check out over on my Upcoming Heat page here on TSDK. Prepare to commit $UICIDE with the Boy$’ STOP STARING AT THE SHADOWS, Vinnie Paz, and Daniel Son and Imported Goodz coming together all on Valentine’s Day. 38 Spesh has FOUR projects coming out in the next two months: Che Noir’s Juno, Elcamino’s Martyr’s Prayer, and Planet Asia’s Trust The Chain in Feburary, and his own, Overkill, in march. March is also going to give us another Estee Nack project with Superior behind the boards. Finally, looking out a bit more, Thundercat has a record coming out in the first few days in April; I love his last project, and the single has me excited for his unique brand of soul/R&B.

:Like I did on Weekly Fix #5, I’d like to draw your attention to a few pages that I think some of you might appreciate. I already pointed out my Upcoming Heat page, but this month I also put out a list of all of my Write-Ups that I’ve done in an easy to read alphabetized list; it’s nothing revolutionary, but it can help you all see where I’ve been so far. I also separated my Playlists and Weekly Fixes into 2019 and 2020, making it easier to see what’s come out recently, which is a plus. I also have my Twitter and Instagram, both going strong and growing, that you can follow to keep up to date with me here. Lastly, I need to point out RateYourMusic as a great tool to not only keep up with new releases, but to go back into artists’ discographies and find shit much easier. Come and friend me and follow me on that shit while you’re at it.

Alright guys, February is here, let’s get into the loving season and listen to some new music and find something new to love. Thank all of your for reading my shit, from the people who have been with me from the beginning, the artists that read my shit out of respect for my craft, and all of you newbies who are just getting onto the Soup Dude wave. I appreciate every single one of you muthafuckas. The effort I put into this feels like it’s being reciprocated, and I couldn’t be more thankful. Let’s keep it going!
