Weekly Fix #2

This week was jammed pack with some quality, so I’ll let the music speak for itself

Here’s a link to Week #2 Playlist for y’all

-----PROJECTS-----

Mach-Hommy – Wap Konn Jòj!
Usually sticking to underground and low-profile release, Mach-Hommy drops a higher profile EP. Big name features like Quelle Chris and Earl Sweatshirt. Very spacey and loose delivery, and his rapping/singing might not be for everyone.

Lil Nas X – 7
Striking while hot, 5 new tracks, none come close to Old Town Road in quality. Coincidentally, Rodeo with Cardi has a Travis pre-Rodeo vibe. Otherwise, it’s toothless pop music.

B.o.B – Southmatic
This is a pretty convincing throwback album, most beats either interpolate or *are* old school hip-hop beats. Lyrically B.o.B could be better, but the sound is there and worth a listen. A bit long tho.

Nafe Smallz – Good Love
Extremely clean Pop/R&B from the U.K. Sickly sweet autotune, vaguely (*vaguely*) reminds me of NAV, but better. First 4 songs are great.

Benny the Butcher – The Plugs I Met
Short EP from Griselda member. Lots of quality features (Black Thought kills it), Benny is cold-blooded as always, and the beats are on point.

Gucci Mane – Delusions of Grandeur
Typical Gucci release. Atlanta Trap. Like his last two big albums, suffers from being overlong, but a couple good beats and couple good features.

-----SINGLES-----

Murda Beatz (Feat. Lil Pump & Sheck Wes) – Shopping Spree
Nice mindless trap banger. Lil Pump reins it in a bit for a more controlled and wacky verse, and Sheck Wes (*very* surprisingly) has a great verse to close out the track.

YBN Cordae (Feat. Chance the Rapper) – Bad Idea
Single from Cordae’s upcoming LP. Reflective, thoughtful, soulful, Cordae and Chance coming through with some real wisdom. Same piano as Scarface’s “On My Block”.

Lil Baby (Feat. Future) – Out the Mud
Fantastic single. Great trap beat, catchy hook, and one of the best Future features in quite a while. I’m ready for a new Lil Baby project.

88-Keys (Feat. Mac Miller & Sia) – That’s Life

This one hurt. Definitely wasn’t ready to hear Mac like this, super venerable bars. Sia does her thing on the end of the track too. Pop, but excellent instrumentation.

The Game – West Side

A dark and downtrodden beat, Game has hella flow on this thing. He’s got grit to his voice on this one too. Kinda lazy hook, but it works.

NLE Choppa (Feat. Blueface)  – Shotta Flow

Remix to a song climbing steadily up the charts. Street trap, Choppa is pretty cutthroat, Blueface addition I wouldn’t say helps the track, but he’s still enjoyable.

Migos – Stripper Bowl

Quavo is really bad on this one, but Offset and Takeoff hit a good flow. It’s a bit barebones beatwise, but it slaps, trap.

YK Osiris (Feat. DaBaby) – Freaky Dancer

And so starts the Freshman collabs. Never heard of Osiris before this, and I’m… interested? Maybe? DaBaby kills it it regardless but Osiris is a strange cat.

DJ Mustard (Feat. A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky, YG, & Tyga) – On GOD

A pretty hot collaboration with tons of energy, a Mustard beat that brings the slaps, great Ferg hook, awesome Rocky and YG verses, and a weird Tyga verse. Overall quite the adventure.
