Weekly Fix #4

A few projects, a couple singles, overall a pretty slow week.

Here’s a link to the Week #4 Playlist for y’all

-----PROJECTS-----

Pouya – The South Got Something to Say
Not even gonna lie, I only like the last 5 or so songs. Bulletproof Shower Cap is a banger. South Florida, heavily throwback smooth R&B sound. Last 5 songs are typical SoundCloud rap.

Salaam Remi & Bodega Bamz – Bodega’s Way
Short EP from hip-hop fossil Salaam Remi (who did a whole album with Black Thought last year) and Spanish Harlem native Bodega Bamz. Bamz has been silent the past few years, and I’m glad to hear him again. Dark, fuzzy, street rap. Good feature from Conway the Machine.

Westside Gunn – FLYGOD IS AN AWESOME GOD
With Supreme Blientele being my #4 album last year, I had a lot of expectations for this new project, but unfortunately they weren’t really met. This album feels more like his mixtape series, Hitler Wears Hermes, and there are several tracks on here that I *know* are Hitler 6 leftovers. Just feels like a half-assed album. Gunnlib and Sauce Walka are the highlights.

Dreamville – Revenge of the Dreamers III
Bloated posse album with everyone on J. Cole’s label, plus a shitton of other collaborators. Ultimately ends up boring, but there’s a few really good tracks on here: Down Bad, Costa Rica, and Under the Sun among others. There are a few “conscious” songs, but it’s mostly trap-inspired mainstream music.

Berner & Curren$y – Pheno Grigio
Wiz Khalifa affiliate (I guess Spitta is an affiliate too but whatever) Berner and the man who never sleeps team up for a west-coast tinged project. Cool, smooth beats, average flows from the two (Berner sounds very amateur and Curren$y is monotone), some good features. Average project.

Zoey Dollaz – Last Year Being Humble
Not too much to this project, it’s pretty predictable mainstream turn up music with some melody. One or two good tracks, and good features from Future and Gunna. A couple of the beats slap.

 -----SINGLES-----

Post Malone (Feat. Young Thug) – Goodbyes
Might not be his best single ever, but I’m enjoying this clean, catchy cut. Young Thug is… surprisingly not as weird on here as I thought he would be but I like his verse. You know the drill: if you don’t like Post you won’t like this.

Bluface (Feat. Offset) – Bussdown
This is by far my favorite Blueface track yet. The pianos on this track are amazing, Blueface comes through with some clever one liners (ok maybe not like mindblowing but an improvement), and Offset kiiiiiills his verse. This and Daddy have me looking forward to his project.
